It is a low-risk, minimally invasive procedure where only small incisions are made.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Laparoscopy uses an instrument called a laparoscope to look at the abdominal organs. Laparascope is a long, thin tube with a high-intensity light and a high- resolution camera at the front. The instrument is inserted through an incision in the abdominal wall. As it moves along, the camera sends images to a video monitor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Laparoscopy is often used to identify and diagnose the source of abdominal or pelvic pain. This procedure may also be used to take a biopsy or sample of tissue from a particular organ in the abdomen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A doctor can also detect an abdominal mass or tumor,fluid in the abdominal cavity,liver disease,the degree to which a particular cancer has progressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Laparoscopic procedures involve:laparoscopic gallbladder removal,laparoscopic appendectomy, different laparoscopic gynecologic interventions, laparoscopic abdominal tumor biopsy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The advantages of laparoscopic surgery compared to open surgery are: small incisions on the abdomen which reduce pain and enable quicker recovery, smaller post-operative scars on the skin,significantly less post-operative pain, shorter time of operation,shorter stay in hospital after the operation as well as quicker post-operative recovery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How is the procedure carried out?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Laparoscopic operations are performed under general anesthesia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During laparoscopy,an incision will be made below naval.A small tube, called cannula,will then be inserted. The cannula is used to inflate your abdomen with carbondioxide gas.The gas allows a doctor to see your abdominal organs more clearly.When the abdomen is inflated, the laparascope will be inserted through the incision.The camera attached to the laparascope will display the images on a screen allowing a doctor to see your organs. This is carried out in the operating theatre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During a biopsy, a doctor will take a small sample of tissue from an organ to be evaluated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the procedure, the incisions will be closed with stitches or surgical tape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the procedure is carried out for diagnostic reasons,a patient will leave the hospital the same day,but if an operation is performed a patient stays in hospital from 2 to 3 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Depending on the procedure,a patient can get back to usual daily activities within a week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Biopsy results are obtained after 3 or 5 days.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Laparoscopic surgery is a surgical diagnostic procedure used to examine the organs inside the abdomen.
